Reset resolution for different monitor

I removed a Dell P780 and installed a Sony Multiscan 420GS. Kubuntu 8.10 detected no difference but defaults to 800x600 and gives no better options. I don't remember how to find or change a video driver. It's easf to read this way, but I have to use Ctrl- several times to get everything on the screen.

Em, the monitor really shouldn't matter, since it should be supported by your video card, which in turn is supported by your video driver?

Reset resolution for different monitor

The problem is that there are different drivers for different monitors. The gui in system controls|display has no sliding scale at this point, just four unacceptable choices in text.
