Question requirements for to have for fast running of a virtual machine.

I am running ubuntu 9.04 on a 2.8/512/80g.What do i need to add to make sure my system does not become slow while working in the virtual machine that i want to install.

Ubuntu 9.04 is end of life, out of support.

512MB is not much system memory these days. Running a virtual machine on a 512MB system (and I'd assume an old P4 CPU) isnt going to be fast, no matter what you do.
