Requesting advice on buying a graphics card for TV-out
I am planning to build a home theatre PC to connect to my plasma TV. Can anyone recommend a graphics card (or motherboard with onboard graphics) with good (preferably open-source) drivers that will allow me to use S-video out or HDMI out to connect to the TV? I would like to use full 1080i resolution (1920x1080).
I would prefer something that "just works" rather than having to hack around with drivers and xorg.conf settings. Thank you. |
When I switched from a vga monitor to my 40 inch lcd all I had to do was: delete the old xorg.conf, shut the system down, unplug monitor, plug in tv, and reboot. Centos 5 then built a working xorg for me. I then had to select the proper resolution. This was all on a nvidia Geforce2(not exactly a new card) using prebuilt rpms(livna has them for F8). You would probably get a better picture if you stick with 720p (unless you have 1080p available) rather than 1080i.
