request for pointers to information

Hello!

When I set up my Ubuntu system, I configured it with a mirrored set of root disks.

Now I'm getting an error from Palimpsest that I have a disk failing and I need to replace it.

I don't know what questions I need to ask to take care of this.

Getting a new drive into the system and physically attached, not a problem. That I can do. It is the raid and lvm and mirroring that I don't really know how to drive.

In a general case, I think I need to add another disk to my system, partition it to match the existing systems, add it as a third mirror for each of the mirrored partitions and lvms, and then remove the failing disk from the system much as I added the replacement disk.

Could anyone post a few pointers to what sort of stuff I need to do?

Tips on better understanding how lvm and raid work under linux would also be appreciated.

The sad thing is I had these skills under Solaris a *long* time ago.

Thanks,

Senjak

Found this site. May look helpful. I have not really used a software raid. I have always used a hardware based. I think this sounds like a good test to setup. But here is the site. http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/raid-lvm.php
