Replacing a bad disk

One of the machines we maintain (running RHEL) was rebuilt by a teammate when we did some repurposing.
The box has 6 disks. It was originally built with disks 0 and 1 as RAID1 and disks 2-5 as RAID5 and there were two logical volumes.
He didn't take the machine back to bare metal;
OS is installed on the smaller LV configured with RAID1 and the disk in slot 0 has gone bad.
The disks in slots 2-5 are not being used but he didn't reformat them from their original use.
I did, however, use parted to delete the only partition on it.
I don't have any spare new disks on hand. Purchasing is slow.

I want to use the disk from slot 5 for slot 0.

Will I have to format the disk
OR
can I simply pull it from slot 5 and hot swap it for the bad disk in slot 0 without creating a problem for us?

Thx.

I'm not the one to answer this, but...since you guys use RHEL in a professional environment, does'nt it stand to reason you've got a service contract somewhere? It seems that this box is mission criotical, so...DO NOT take any of my answers for true...except: check with your service provider...they're bound to be able to help...properly...

My two cents and best of luck
(been there, had nobody to ask for help, I can sympatise)
