replace core duo 2 with core duo 4

I have a gigabyte ga965P-dq6 motherboard running SUSE 10.3

My mother board supports the newer intel 6600 quad core. I'm wondering if I buy the new CPU and install will I have to re-install my OS or will all just work?

If it's the stock SMP kernel that comes with Suse 10.3 it should support all 4 cores out of the box. Most SMP kernels support 32 processors by default.

Make sure you're using the SMP kernel. To check run `uname -a`.

Thanks I guess the best thing to do is buy it and try it out.
