reliable sata drives - which brand/models endure well?

i have a big number crunching database with samsung 750gb sata's. there are 4 connected to a 3ware card configured for raid 5.

after about 3 months of near full time spinning, they have started to get errors that are troublesome to repair on a 1tb database.

i had heard samsung's could be less reliable than some of their competitors. but wasn't sure if it was a material difference.

now i am trying to determine whether i can run this much load on sata's and if so what config - different brand drives? more, smaller drives with raid 6? or raid 10? or move to an sas solution.

what have you seen be able to take a lot of load and stay priced competitively? brand of drives, type of drive, count/size for 1 1tb database (postgres).

thanks,
gt

Check the manufacturer warranty on the drives. I prefer Seagate drives with a 3 or 5 year warranty. Most other drive manufacturers offer only 1 to 3 year warranties for their drives.
