reinstall

I have two OS on my hard disk (SATA).Windows XP and Fedora core 3.
I would like to install Ubuntu instead of Fedora. I have installation CD but when I start computer it just ignore it and boot sistem normaly regardless that CD is inserted. If i had to format linux partition (I have two, one swap one normal). How do I do that? Can I format in Fedora or in Windows(I think Windows don't recognize linux partition). fdisk -l ,write out my partitions and then I write in terminal: fdisk PartitionName. Is that wrong? I read somewhere that formatting in linux progress in two steps like: deliting and then building up linux sectors.I was searching Linux forums but just didn't find nothing usefull.

Sorry but I am just green rookie in Linux, thanks in advance!

Silly question but is your bios set to boot from your cdrom drive. If it is not, then what you have described will happen. If it is, then you have serious problems .... I would try to boot using a different iso.

I am glad that you asked silly questionn because that was a problem. Now the Ubuntu installation proces begins but it stops after two lines. In third line writes:
Your CPU does not support long mode. Use a 32bit distribution.

Than it hangs up.Totaly frozen.

What is meant by this? That my computer does not support Ubuntu at all. Or can I fix that with some configurations.
