Regular crashes with Kubuntu 6.10 64-bit, need advice

My PC keeps freezing up, at least once per day, forcing me to reset. Each time, after I reboot to X, the video display is messed up, photos and videos all look washed out, as though in 256 colours. After I reset X the second problem fixes itself.
This has been happening since I installed an ethernet modem and a tv tuner card a few weeks back. I also updated my gfx drivers around this time.

I can't seem to post an attachment, otherwise I'd put up my /var/log/messages file.
The end of it is here, this all happened while I was asleep apparentyl:

Has anyone even got an idea where I could start to look for help with this? It's been crashing all day now, for no apparent reason.
