The refresh rate won't stay at what I set it to. It stays at 84hz and when I set it to 75hz and later after a reboot it's back at 84hz. Why is this? I have Mandrake 10
How do you set it? Are you editing the xorg.conf (or XF86Config-4) file or using a graphical wizard? If you set it properly in the X config file you will probably not see this kind of problem.
I'm setting it using the graphical interface. So I guess that's the problem, but why would that happen? I remember that happening in my old install too.
Are you running as a regular user and doing this? Regular users do not have write access to system configuration files so that could explain it. Try setting the refresh rate as root instead and see if it sticks.
