Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

RedHat not controlling fan speed

Hi,

I have a Packard Bell i-design.
Dual boot.
When in Windows, fan speed changes depending on usage.
When in Linux, fan speed is constant (CPU Fan Speed=4900 approx, PS Fan Speed = 3500 approx).

So obviously this is loud. I've just whacked in lm_sensors and tried a fan speed tool "varyfan". Which installed fine, and runs, but the fan speeds aren't affected.

It seems that Linux just can't control this hardware.
Right? Wrong?

Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Alan.
