Redhat Linux Terminal Keyboard Not Responding

Hey guys,

Having a problem with my Redhat 9.0 Linux box. I have no problem logging into this machine over the network via ssh but the other day when I hooked up a monitor/keyboard to it the keyboard wouldn't work. After a reboot the keyboard worked fine in the boot loader, then in grub fine, but after linux booted there was no response. No ctrl-alt-del, not even num lock toggle.

Edit:
- This IS a ps/2 keyboard
- runlevel 3

Any Ideas?

You don't say if you are booting to a terminal or to X. In your boot messages I see references to HID drivers being loaded, which would imply USB mouse and/or keyboard. If you are booting to X and have configured a different type of keyboard (e.g., USB instead of PS/2) than you are using, then you will have the type of problems you describe.

Sorry about the lack of information. This is a PS/2 keyboard, X is not installed, and I just updated the kernel (from 2.4.20-18.9 to 2.4.20-31.9) with no effect. This machine runs in runlevel 3 so it is booting to a system terminal.

Some suggestions to try (one at a time):
1) disable USB in your BIOS
2) disable gpm
3) disable kudzu (saw this suggested when I googled on the issue)

Alright, cool! I had already disabled USB to no effect before your message but after disabling "gpm" the keyboard now works again! Thanks Idaho.
