Redhat Linux KVM Training Environment

What is a reasonable hardware platform for supporting the Redhat 6 KVM environment with 2 VMs and multiple guests for working through the RHCSA and RHCE labs? My current i7, 4gig laptop supports virt but is very slow... Thank you in advance for your advice.

I don't know why you say it is slow.
I run kvm with centos on an i5-2500 with 24gb ram. It is doing 3 virtual machines. A virtual router, public apache and samba.

Runs like a charm. I think there may be a configuration error somewhere or not enough ram assigned to the guests. If using gui, try to increase the video memory in the virtual machine xml file. I found it made things a bit more snappy. Also make sure to use virtio wherever you can. It will provide a performance boost. Also if you have spare computers available, you can use those instead of the recommeneded virtual machines. The steps are just to make you practice setting up the vm and assigning them to different virtual networks. You can have the same results if you use dedicated clients on the same lan subnet.
