RedHat Linux 7.3 and an S3 Trio64V+
I have looked a little on the internet and found that several other people are having this same problem. For some reason when Redhat 7.3 tries to bring up the GUI it fails and the monitor just sits there and goes blank. Any ideas? I have tried moving the card around into different PCI slots and it has no affect. Linux wants to install drivers for the card as a S3 Trio64V. The actual card is a S3 Trio64V+.

i think SHART is 100% right this is a problem in redhat 7.3 edition (only).
i have tried it on some differnet moniters and vga cards but the result is same.
X works fine if default init is 5, and if init is set to 3 (text mode) then whenever we give the startx command it gives the same error of moniter. and we have to run xfree86 setup again.

The sync is not right for that monitor, each monitor is different and some settings for one may not work for another, and couls actually distroy the monitor.

Most likely the monitor, but possibly the video
I would use Xconfigurator and see if it works with a low color setting at 640x480 and 800x600 and just go from there.
if there is a way you can find out the correct settings for your monitor you can put them in, that is the correct way to do it.
