Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question RedHat & Firewire devices

I've just installed RedHat 2.1 Advanced server, and I am trying to get the machine to access a firewire drive.

Using control center, I can see under PCI devices that a 1394 device (I presume the card I added before the install) exists on my machine. However, I cannot find any documentation that tells me if it can see the drive directly as the drive does not appear in hardware browser.

Should I be able to see anything at this point, or am I doing (or failing to do) something silly?

Mark
