Redhat 9: "out of range"
ah, my first post....
well i just installed redhat 9 (dual booting with windows xp), and that worked ok, but I cant use linux in any graphical mode because i get an "out of range" error from my monitor. I already tried editing xf86config, but it seemed to completely ignore all of my input. Its trying to use some rediculous horiz and vert sync rates (14.2 horiz, 21.3 vert), which are way out of the range i specified. |
Are you using a LCD monitor or a normal CRT monitor.

sorry, im using an LCD monitor, its made to be used with windows plug and play drivers...which is probably whats causing my problem
and when i do redhat-config-xfree86, i get this message Couldn't start x server, trying with fresh configuration *ddcprobe returned bogus vals ID: GVT1702 Name: L7EH HorizSync: none VertSync: none |

Anyhow, what I'd suggest is to tell RedHat that you're using a laptop LCD screen. Lie to linux and it'll probably work! :-) That's just a guess, though. |
just thought id bring this post back to life cuz i still havnt found a working solution...
I tried disabling ddcprobe, hoping that maybt it was causing my problem, but that didnt work. I dont know what else i can try... |

Well I am no expert on redhat or any other linux. I just knew that I had that problem with knoppix if i dont set the monitor refresh rate correctly. You might want to try different settings until you find the right one. Or posting this requestion in the distrubtion->redhat fourm. People there may knows alot more about redhat.

thanks, yea, i'll try asking there and i'll have to try ur suggestion too..
