redhat 9 display settings problem

hi ..

i've just installed redhat 9 .. new install ( after formatiing redhat 8) and i did a mistake that i choosed the resulotion to be 800*600 instead of 1024*768 .. and the display was not nice at all

i went to K >> system settings .. display and changed the resolution to 1027*768 and color depth to millions of colors

and restarted x server .. but nothing changed ... it returned to 800*600

i manually editied XF86Config and changed the defualt depth to 16 and default resolution to 1024*768

but new happened in the view except that when i return to display settings the resolution was 1024*768 and the color depth was thousands of colors ...

the display was still not nice ...

when i was using RH8 the resolution was 1024*768 and everything was fine ...

Video card type = s3 savage/mx
memory size = 8mb
driver = savage

any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thanks

go into runlevel 3:

telinit 3

and run this:

redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig

And re-enter the values for your video card and monitor. And then specify the resolution that you want. Then, to go into gui mode:

telinit 5

and see if it worked.

Ok murshed, I had exactly the same problem.Took me 3 weeks to figure out how to solve it
The solution is just to change the resoltuion and ALSO change the frequency of your monitor. MIne is working at "Generic 1024x768 Monitor @ 70Hz"

It works perfectly.
Tyr it out and let us know...

Hope that helps...
