Unhappy Redhat 8 And sound

I have redgat 8 installed.. And im running a Hercules Gametheatre XP, which should be running on the CS46xx driver. Problem is, it's not working (Bummer). It's detected under Modprobe and under X as a cs46xx but still no joy. Has anyone got theirs working under redhat 8??? And how did you do it. Im a relative noob to linux, so be gentle.. Allthough i do work in IT so you dont have to assume i know nothing.

Thanks peeps, this is the last thing i have to get working and i can feel im so close now it hurts.

I think I had a similar problem and found two ways to fix it. The first consisted of adding four extra kernel modules and setting the right irq, dma, mem, and other cryptic stuff like that. The easy way I discovered later was using the old sndconfig from RedHat 7.3. Go to www.rpmfind.net or someplace similar and search for sndconfig. Find the version compiled for RedHat 7.3 and install and run it as root (probably with /sbin/sndconfig). It should set everything correctly and fix your modules.conf file automatically. Not sure why RedHat took this out for 8.0. Anyway, let me know if this helps, if not I'll try and remember the kernel module trick I discovered.

What do you mean by this? When you type modprobe cs46xx, and then try to play some sound (as root), do you get anything? If so, what you need to do is edit the file /etc/modules (as root), and put in a single line that reads cs46xx. You might find, however, that putting alias cs46xx sound into the file /etc/modules.conf is also beneficial.
