RedHat 8.0 valid block device ??
RedHat 8.0 Gigabyte 7VAXP Motherboard
Built in Via Firewire controller
60GB Maxtor Hard drive formatted NTFS attached to firewire connector.
Updated RedHat kernel to 2.4.18-19.8.0 with kernel source rpm. Recompiled kernel
to enable NTFS support.
When booting: RedHat is able to "logon" to the device without a problem. However I
get an error message about /dev/sda5 (the firewire hard drive) is not a valid block
device.
After booting I run cat /proc/scsi/scsi > the hard drive is not listed.
I run rescan-scsi-bus.sh > the drive is then added and I can mount it.
I have the drive listed in /etc/fstab > same as I do in Mandrake 9.0.
Is there something I need to edit so I don't have to run rescan-scsi-bus.sh
each time I want to use the drive?
After all the problems I went thru trying to get RedHat to work with another
machine that had an Audigy firewire connector this was a breeze. That experience
definitely helped this time around.
If anyone has any tips I would be greatful.
Thank's.
