Red Hat8 GUI Login screen + Caddy

Hi, I have 3 HDD in my pc atm. One 120gig Maxtor and 2 15gig Quantum Fireball Drives. Everything runs fine when I have the 2nd of my quantum drives which is housed in a caddy unplugged. The GUI Login comes up fine everything works dandy. When I plug in the drive that is in the caddy it boots up ok but the login screen comes up completly garbled. I am greeted with a distorted background and the unreadable charectersd on where the login should be. Any ideas? The caddy is connected to a PCI IDE controller card
