Red Hat Linux won't recognize Artech Mouse

Hi there,

I'm installing Red Hat 9 on a new computer I just bought. But I'm using an older mouse, its a 3 button Artech serial Mouse. The Red Hat Installer doesn't recognize it, and asks me to pick the mouse from a list. Artech isn't listed, so I have tried all the serial Mice listed and the "Generic 3 button serial." After I pick the mouse it asks me if I want it on ttyS0 (COM1), ttyS1 (COM2), ttyS2 (COM3), or ttyS3 (COM4). I only have 2 serial ports, so I've tried "COM1" and "COM2" for all the serial mice, but after I pick the mouse and port the installation freezes and I have to reboot. Should I just install with no mouse, and then try to figure this out from in the OS (how would I do that?). Or do I need to buy another mouse?

thanks,

it may pay to try testing the other serial ports. The number of ports you physically have in the machine doesn't *HAVE* to correlate to the config of those ports.

Also, it may pay you to check under the mouse. Some of the older mice have a little switch that allows you to flick between to differing standards.

Other than that, spend the 10 bucks on a PS2 or USB mouse :)

Cheers
Jo
