red hat install on msi875p neo
Because of a hardware crash I changed to an MSI 875p Neo motherboard with a new ATA disk and two of the older disks with my data. I want to do a new installation using redhat 9, but all I obtain is a kernel panic when I boot from the CD. The installation on my old disk also crashes without giving me any chance. I have heard that it is probably an issue with the kernel not recognizing the chipset. How can I get around that problem? Has anybody installed RedHat 9 on the msi 875p neo?

MSI 875p Neo motherboard plus RH9 works for me, is this a new install with no current operating system loaded ? May be a hardware issue 875 boards are very picky when it comes to memory, can you give me more details of your current hardware Pete |
Hi Pete and thanks:
I am trying to do a complete new install. I disconnected my old disks and put a completely new ide 120 giga disk. I installed 2 gigas of new kingston pc400 memory, 4 x512 . The graphic board is an MSI FX 5900 with 256 mB. I am doing the install from CDs that were tested and used in another computer with success. I chose to use only p-ata drives in the bios. The memory test is OK. After choosing a graphical install the kernel start loading and almost inmediately results in a kernel panic. |
