Unhappy Red Hat 9 Sound Problems

Hi all,

I'm sorry to ask another sound question , but I haven't found anything that could solve my problem. You see, I just installed Red Hat Linux 9 and all the help files for isa cards are either for red hat 6, 7 or 8

I have a Creative AWE64 ISA sound card and in linux, there seems to be a conflict with the IRQ. I tried to use isapnp to configure it, but I cannot find it on my installation!

I've read through most of the guides for older red hat releases, but I can't seem to be able to find isapnptools anywhere on my system . I know it exists because the startup log has entries refering to it. Also, there is no man page entry for isapnp nor isapnp.conf or is there a file called isapnp.conf in /etc either.

This is what shows up when I type dmesg:
...
Activating ISA DMA hang workarounds.
isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards...
isapnp: SB audio device quirk - increasing port range
isapnp: AWE32 quirk - adding two ports
isapnp: Card 'Creative SB AWE64 PnP'
isapnp: 1 Plug & Play card detected total
...
Soundblaster audio driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
sb: Creative SB AWE64 PnP detected
sb: ISAPnP reports 'Creative SB AWE64 PnP' at i/o 0x220, irq 9, dma 1, 5
SB 4.16 detected OK (220)
sb: Interrupt test on IRQ9 failed - Probable IRQ conflict
sb: 1 Soundblaster PnP card(s) found.

Could someone please tell me how to find out what IRQ my sound card is really using and how to change these values in red hat linux 9?

Also, do I need to install isapnptools myself or is it built into the kernel? If so, could you please tell me the path to it please?

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter. Everything went smoothly in my linux install except this part

Regards,
Alf

Well, you could look up the IRQ values in windows if you still have that. If you have the IRQ value, you can use the "setserial" command to fix the IO and IRQ settings. Do a "man setserial" for more info.

Thanks for the info schatoor

I've still got windows and the sound card is using IRQ 5. From recollection, Linux is already using that for something else. I'll try setting another IRQ with the command and see what happens.

Btw, what's the cascade on IRQ 2? I think I read somewhere that the cascade thing will link IRQ 2 to IRQ 9? Is that right or did I get confused?
