Red hat 9 linux newbie needs help


i have managed to get all my other hardware going apart from my adsl modem , it is an itex chipset alcatel speed touch pc - pci internal modem... can anyone tell me how to do all the compiling into the kernel and stuff cause im lost.....

I think you're out of luck. This page:

lists the PCI Alcatel Speed Touch ADSL modem as not supported by Linux (no drivers available), and it was updated less than a week ago, so I guess the information is current.

I tried for two years to get an Alcatel SpeedTouch USB to work. There are drivers and routines out there but I couldn't make any of them work. Finally I bought an unused SpeedStream 5360 ethernet bridge. In less than five minutes I had a connection through BellSouth FastAccess. This is a model BS used to support but stopped when they started pushing the Westel device. I bought mine through eBay for $30. I leave it on 24/7 and only have to restart when BellSouth goes down and comes back up.
