Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Red Hat 8.0

I just installed Red Hat 8.0.
I have a Hercules 3D Prophet GeForce 2 mx video card installed. Red Hat sees it as a generic Geforce 2 MX card. When I try to play the tux racer game the mouse pointer responds incredibly slow. Like slow motion, frame by frame.

Any ideas?

BTW
I'm a newbie to the whole Linux thing

Thanks
Steve

Go back and change it to the real video card. The card probing it does I have found isn't always right. Changing it to the right card might be an easy fix for the problem.

install the proper nvidia drivers from their website, the generic drivers (it will always be a "generic" geforce 2mx... how much more specific do you want it??) operate purely in software, and that means opengl rendering in the cpu... slowwwwwwwww

http://nvidia.com and *please* read the docs and search google and this site if you have problems, before asking how to install them. you'd be amazed how many people don't bother looking before asking!

Thanks for the replys.
I already check the list for the 3D prophet and it's not listed.

Thanks for the link... but according to the site 7.3 (kernal drivers) is as high as they go.
Any one try the 7.3 drivers Nvidia in Red Hat 8.0?

Thanks
Steve
