recording using sb live! and audacity

Yesterday I recorded a radio stream using audacity and it worked great. I wanted to do the same today but when I turned up the recording volume my sound went crazy with either a constand high pitched wail or a sort of loud ticking. I mucked around in KMix trying to set the correct recording source, etc. but nothing happening.

Thanks for the help.

Do not use kmix. Use alsamixer instead. When running alsamixer include -V all option. You may need to adjust one of the channels in the ac97 setting to 0% while the other channel is at 100%. I do not recommend Creative Labs LIVE cards and up for recording because they do too much coloring and they miss a lot of audio information because the DSP chip is programmed to act like an ADC chip. I suggest Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1.
