Recommended NVidia Hardware for OpenSUSE?
 

Hi all,

I've got a new 64 bit Gateway system with three monitors, a Gateway FPD2185W (1600x1080) 21" LCD and two Gateway 17" LCDs. The system came with a Colorgraphic Xentera GT quad display video card, but there are no 64 bit Linux drivers available from XIG (besides, they cost $199). I've had good luck with NVidia on Linux and was hoping someone here could make sure I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot here.

I'm thinking of using a dual vga FX5500 PCI card from PNY for the two 17" monitors and a dual DVI/D-SUB 6600 series (LE or GT) PCI-Express card from eVGA to run the big 21" monitor.

(Should I look at cards with all DVI or just go for the regular D-SUB vga connectors?)

This will be running on a 64bit Intel platform and using OpenSUSE 10.0.

Does anyone think I will have problems with this setup?

I THINK DONT TAKE RISK AND MAIL IT 2 THE COMPANY (NVIDIA ) or ask some qualified ppl @ zdnet.com

besides MSI i think manufactures cards with LOADS Of such juice as multi head display so do consider MSI and ASUS (if i were u i would prefer MIS then ASUS then ATI -radeon then NVIDIA )

I have a single FX5500 running with Suse 10.0 and haven't had any problems with it thus far. I'm using the nVidia driver from Suse. Sorry, I don't know what version it is.

Any particular reason you want to run 64 bit? I messed with Suse 10.0 64 bit for a while on an AMD64. True the 64 bit OS is a little faster.

After all the hassle (like Kino not working right, no windoze media codecs for 64 bit mplayer, no 64 bit flash player). I went back to 32 bit. Having a mix of 32 bit and 64 bit on the same machine is a real pain. IMO. Perhaps in another release or 2 of Suse Linux things will improve and most everything will be 64 bit but for now there are too many gotchas for me.
