Recommended Diagnostics Tool?

Hello everybody, I'm looking for a really good tool (maybe something that I can boot off of) to run computer diagnostics. (HDD Read/Write Testing, Memory testing, etc.) I would like to be able to diagnose bad hardware.

Free would be better.
