recommended combo cd rw dvd rw?
I have been having problems installing linux on a computer that used to run linux just fine. At this point, I have come to the conclusion that there is a problem with my cd rom drive, which is very old 48x. I think it is time to get a new combo cd rw and dvd rw. (Actually, I have an external usb cd rw and dvd rw, but I don't think there is any way I can use that for an install. And, btw, that is connected to another computer that runs win2k, so it is not related to my install problem.) All linux distributions I have tried start to boot up, but when you get to the real install part, things always bomb out.
Anyway, I was thinking of the Sony DRV-710A, but I have read posts in various places that indicate there are problems with that unit with Linux, and Sony specifically states that they support Windows MX and 2000. No Linux. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good, internal, IDE combo cd rw and dvd rw drive for a machine that will be running both linux and win2k with a dual boot?
Thanks,
Ed
