Recommendations on perfect audio-card for mediacentre PC
All,
I'm building a new Linux-based Media Centre / Set-Top-Box PC from scratch, and need some input on the best Linux-supported audio-card out there (PCI).
The new Media Centre PC will also replace my current amplifier by relying on active speakers, so that I can get rid of all boxes in the living-room except for this new box.
So far I have received recommendations for the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 as well as for the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 4. Based on pure hardware sound performance, I understand that the Creative X-Fi Platinum is among the best out there, but without any ALSA-support it's 100% useless.
In addition to basic ALSA-support for stereo, it would be preferred if the new card also had a sufficiently sophisticated Linux-driver that it allows some driver/config tweaking in order to maximize the listening experience.
In case it makes a difference I'm getting the Bose Acoustimass 6 Series (powered) to go with the new kit.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated so I don't go out wasting money on a non-supported or useless system!
Thanks much!!
