Recommendations for external DVD writer?

Hi all

I'm creating a new development server, based on either debian or suse, and need to back-up to DVD. The system will be mounted in a 1U rack case, so an external USB/Firewire DVD writer is required.

However, I'm unsure as to which to use, or in fact what software to use with it. I'd like something which is automated (say runs scheduled daily mon-friday), and simple to configure.

Can anybody give me any recommendations as to hardware/software for this project?

Thanks.

Hi all

I'm in the same situation, currently running a debian 3.0 server. I need to find an external DVD re-writer to backup my data.

Regarding backup software I'm currently using rsync to copy all changed data from servers on other sites to my server.

Followed by mondo archive to create an ISO image of my system incase of failure. I'd back up the ISO and restore another Hard drive if I had a disaster.

But if you can get your hands on a copy of Linux Format January 2005 they have done a roundup of backup software. Some popular ones include 1 - dar, 2 - Bacula,
3 - rdiff-backup.

Thanks,
