rebooting problems

Greetings,

I have an HP computer 512 ram, 1.1ghz, and i have SuSE linux installed on it.

Every thing works super, but when i want to restart, and go back to the HP symbol at startup (when you turn the computer) it just beeps three times and shows a bunch of small HP logos on top of the screen, but my computer is running(and prolly actually restarting but the screen is frozen.... my question is how do you fix this..?

When it is at the HP logo screen, hit ESC so you can see what is going on in the background. If the screen disappears, goes blank for a second, then all the logos come up, it sounds like your bootloader isn't installed correctly. Can you boot from floppy?

well, right now i'm on windows on the computer, i'm building a computer in two days, so i don't plan to put linux on it now. I just asked this question to see if there would be an easy solution to it, i really couldn't do any tests to see anything :\
but the HP logo is only supposed to stay onscreen for two seconds.. for example. when i start my computer, it shows the HP logo. then goes to the linux menu and starts to do all it's work to start up, i only get this problem when restarting....

ok, i put the SuSE linux installation disk in, and there is an option to reboot from there.. When i reboot it just beeps one long one then two short beeps, then it freezes the screen, but the computer is still loading up...

this is very odd =\

Hmm, sounds like something with the video card maybe? And since it only does it when rebooting, just shut it down every time I guess, I really don't know! Good luck though!

I have a similar problem with SuSE 9.1. I had it also with 8.2...

The problem, I think, is the way that the shutdown command shuts down the system for reboot, and the motherboard's chipset...

I have to do a cold reboot rather than a warm reboot to deal with this issue.

It's not a glaring issue so I pretty much ignore it.
