I think you may find more help in this bug.

http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1293

Have you tried the rmmod and modprobe I suggested earlier?

good luck.

Thank you for all your help, however it still does not work. I was looking at the link you provided, One user was able to make their card work with the following steps:

"If I delete /dev/dsp and create a link to /dev/dsp1"

Do you know how I would go about going the above?

Delete /dev/dsp, then execute this.

ln -s /dev/dsp1 /dev/dsp

I don't believe that will do it though. Did you get the correct module loaded?

good luck.

I loaded the modules AOK - no errors and ran mixer again

zero@kaya3:~$ alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

In another note, I went to System -> prefs_.multmedia selector and I have these options:

ALSA
ARTSD
ESD
OSS
Custom

I tested all of these, and they all give me errors but ESD. Is says testing and never plays and never gives errors

hi.

i'm new in linux so i ask you to be patient with me.

i'm working on asus a6vc-q001h, and have "realtek intel high definition audio" sound card. as far as i know i've installed "Realtek HD Audio CODECs v R3.34 for Unix (Linux)" driver in order to get sound working. I just executed the install script and everything said ok. I just run alsamixer to tune the volume, but when i use mpg123 program to play mp3 files i get no sound, no error messages, like everything were working well. i reviewed the mixer in order to check if any channel was muted, but none was.

does anyone knows if i have to do anything else?

thank you for your time

I ugraded my Ubuntu distro to "Breezy" and it worked perfectly!

You can download the Ubuntu breezy iso here:
http://us.releases.ubuntu.com/releases/5.10/

The great thing about Ubuntu is the amount of support available, check out their support site:

You also want to make sure you have mp3 support:

sudo apt-get install lame
