I have a laptop that I loaded SUSE 10 on. I am having problems gettting the drivers for the NIC card to work.
The NIC card is a Realtek RTL8139 I think I found the drivers for Linux on their site. Realtek.com.tw
Know I have very little working experience with Linux. I was wondering if someone could help explain to me how to get this driver installed. Frankly I'm a Windows guy I run .exe files. But I work for a school district and were looking to start using more and more Linux machines. I need step by step instructions on how to install this.
I am using fedora12.1 i have a similar problem, can you please tell me step by step on how u installed the rtl8139 driver to linux and where the driver would be available
The kernel comes with it. Just do a search on your setup for 8139too or 8139cp. If you do not have it, then your distribution did not configure the kernel to include it during compile time. You will have to re-compile the kernel and make sure this module is set to be compiled. Make sure this module is set to module. Read the instructions how to compile the kernel for your distribution.
If you have the module, as root or sudo type modprobe 8139too or modprobe 8139cp. After this module is loaded, you have to setup the network for this NIC.
