Exclamation Realtek RTL8029

hello!
I have a PC on which I have installed the linux mandrake 9.2.
I have found the following problem:
I do not succeed to make to go the net card.
(RTL8029, driver installed from the linux operating system: ne2k_pci)
the card is not out of order,in fact under windows xp, when this part,
on the hub illuminates the corresponding led and, subsequently,
I succeed to access the net and Internet, under linux the led remains
extinguished, excluding to me from the net and Internet.
I wire the net of recent, passing from the coaxial cable to RJ45 with hub,
when I used cables BNC the card worked also under linux, now with cables RJ45 the card does not work.

description net: net 10/100 Mb wired with cables RJ45,
4 PC in the net
the hub of the PC is also router of ADSL internet access

net configuration :
IP from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.6
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1 <-- IP address of router
dns 151.99.125.2
can you help me?

same problem

I have a similar problem. The same rtl8029 nic on Mandrake 9.2. It works under WinXP just fine and in linux it's configured right (ip, netmask, dns, gateway) and it doesn't work.

Hey,

I'm a bit of a newbie to linux myself but had some problems getting broadband going on my mandriva box so i picked up a few (admittedly basic) things that may help

You need to ascertain if its a problem with the card (or driver) itself or with your network or connection settings.

open a terminal and 'su' to root and run the 'ifconfig' command

if your card's working ok there should be a mention of eth0 or similar and your current i.p. settings should be displayed for the card

another basic thing I learned thats handy for troubleshooting, try pinging the router.
Enter something like
'ping -c 4 192.168.1.1' (or whatever the address of your router)
if you get ICMP replies rather than a 'host unreachable' or 'network unreachable' message then the cards talking to the router ok, the problem must be with your internet connection settings.

hope this helps.

Realtek RTL8029 Network Card Linux Driver

I've tried this card with both Red Hat v9 and Ubuntu 6.06 Desktop without success, although a different (3Com) NIC worked. Picked up that the problem is a lack of support for the driver in the Linux kernel.

Solution: Download the driver & recompile the kernel.

I don't know how to do this, but here's where to get the download:

members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=14626

You'll have to register for a free membership to access the site.

If you work through the recompile and get the card working, post a note here to the HOWTO that you used and any tips for the next person who needs to do this.

Hope this was some help.
