Realtek Alc 880 Sound Drivers

Howdy. I have a new HP Pavilion a819n (here are the specs http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c00300046)

As you can see it has the realtek alc 880 chipset. I have done some googling but found no positive sounding talk that this chipset is supported under linux. However when I go to realtek's site they offer a linux driver download. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...Audio%20CODECs

I've just done a fresh install of FC3. The soundcard doesn't seem to be recognized (the gui tells me "no soundcard detected" when i run sound detection. This is as far as I have gotten. I am looking for feedback, anyone out there using this chipset under linux???

Thanks in advance,

did you ever get linux to detect the realtek alc 880 sound card? i am still stuck at the very begining, and there is no one here apparently who knows how to solve this problem, and is then able to communicate it in English. isn't Linux grand :)

Hi all,
i am new to this forum. was searching for a solution about the sound problem with Realtek ALC880 sound card in linux. Found this post. Replying here only although it is very old.

I am using a Compaq Presario SR 1630IL with Ubuntu Linux 9.4 as default OS. My system has Realtek ALC880 sound card. In windows I do not have any problem with my sound card but in linux im getting very low sound although my external amplifier is in full volume and the internal volume controller / ALSA mixer is in full volume. Is it any problem with ALC880 in linux? So far I did get it solved.

Waiting eagerly for your help.

Thanks
