Realtek 8821ce on solus

Hello,

I've got a wonderful shiny new laptop and it does everything... except wifi.

My distro of choice is solus, but I have also tried mint. Neither worked.

I have got bluetooth (in which I have no interest) and no wifi.

Now, I read on these forums that: https://github.com/endlessm/linux/tr...less/rtl8821ce might be a solution to my problems, however is that truly the case I will I end up blowing up my OS?

It could blow up the kernel, but hardly the rest. That's why you always keep the former kernel around rather than replacing it. The risk of lasting damage is very low.

A superficial web search indicates that the Linux kernel doesn't have a driver for this particular interface; perhaps because it's too new? Since the kernel doesn't support it, it's unlikely other Linux distros will help you. I would try the software on Github you found already.

Well, the problem with that tree is the fact he's only supporting ubuntu and arch linux. I do not know what patches they include in their kernel that might break compatibility with a clean kernel.

Also, I do not know which patches solus includes in the kernel.

So, I'm a bit scared it may end up doing things it's not supposed to do.

a patched kernel seems like the wrong approach here; all you need is 1 driver.
searching the issue there seem to be several solutions.
amongst others, the driver appears to be available in archlinux' user repository (AUR).

I would try https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce as it seems to work in Mint/Ubuntu
