Real slow performance

I have SuSE 8.2 on my lappy. It used to fly(though for some unknow reason, it was slow on some boots into X).

However, real trouble started when a rebuilt the kernel - it now runs so slow, that some programs such as mozillia-mail time out and don't start at all.

Some output below, from which i can't see anything very fishy. But I am from an applications background, and so know nothing about hardware/embedded stuff.

I don't spose anyone will have the time nor inclination to read through all this, but I thought I'd try as I've no where else to look(pathetic I know - I've no shame).

My machine is a Pentium 4m,500 ram, 40gig hd, CD/DvD combo, SIS650, 1 gig swap with rest as a single EXT3
