Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Read GPS Serial data from GPIO

Hi everybody,

I have a GPS receiver (GTOP FGPMMOSL3C datasheet) intergrated on my board. I know that GPS TX pin, on which it transmits "Serial Data Output for NMEA output", is connected to GPIO11.
Is there any driver that allows to read these information?
Is it possible to attach, in some way, a serial driver to GPIO?

Thanks in advance,
Gaetano.

You did not post any information about your board.

The documentation indicates that GPIO11 is a TTL serial data output. If your board has TTL serial port you should be able to connect the pins directly and read the data using standard serial driver. NMEA is just ASCII data. Otherwise if your board has standard serial port you will need a RS-232 level shifter to convert TTL to +/- voltages.

The documentation is not very clear if UART-B output is TTL or if it also outputs NMEA data. This may be what you use if your board has a standard serial port input without having to add additional hardware.

Thank you michaelk. Actually the board documentation says that GPIO signal can be redirected into the serial port. After doing that I guess I should be able to read from the serial device.

Thank you again,
Gaetano.
