I'm using rh 7.3

Looking forward to relevant replies.

I had the same problem. What I did was to change the mouse type from serial port generic 2 button mouse to a serial port microsoft scroll mouse. So just look to see if there is a different mouse option that better describes your mouse. Hope this helps.

Below is the entry for my Intellimouse in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4;
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "BaudRate" "1200"
Option "Resolution" "100"
Option "Buttons" "7"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
It works well - the 2 lines you are interested in are "Buttons" and "ZAxismapping"
