I am running Fedora 11 on a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 MB, AMD x2, and three WD5000AAKS 500Gb drives. One of these is my main system drive, and the other two are configured as a Raid 1 array.
Yesterday, I had to reboot, and the PC stopped on a normal reboot with merely the word GRUB on a line on its own.
It takes a long time to perform the "Detecting IDE drives" process which may be some help in diagnosis.
When I tried to boot in with the installation disk to do a rescue, it got as far as complaining with the following messages before freezing completely:-
ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m1024@0xfe02f000 port 0xfe02f100 irq 22
ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m1024@0xfe02f000 port 0xfe02f180 irq 22

after which it freezes
Any help with diagnosis of what is wrong will be gratefully received. I am beginning to think that I will need to replace the MB.
That motherboard supports SATA II, and those drives are also SATA II.
Check the cables, looks like either a bad drive, bad port, or bad connection with the first SATA device.
With the PC off unplug the hard drive(s) and attempt to boot the recovery CD again. When the CD loads, you'll know which port/drive/cable might be at fault.

Thanks for that contribution. I have already downloaded the ISO, but have not yet had the opportunity to run it yet. Hopefully, I will get this done over next weekend.
