Well, you can (with the right BIOS options) overclock the RAM by changing the multiplier. But I doubt your Compaq has this capability. Take a look at the BIOS options, see if there is overclocking in there.

going to check it out, not sure if I'll end up doing it, for an old system it works pretty flawlessly, if i can install the new processor and make it even faster for 50 bucks then i might just call it a win and leave it at that.

I don't think changing the processor will have any effect on the clock speed of the RAM. I can't say they are not related, because they are, but you would still need to overclock the RAM even with a new processor.
