ram upgrade dell inspiron 1150

im looking to get some new memory modules for my dell laptop

some sources claim that the 'max' is 1GB, but does that mean 1GB per slot, or 1GB total, meaning 512MB per slot?

*also, if my computer is very slow on certain tasks, like loading KDE (KDE actually goes EXTREMELY slow on this comp, and then freezes after a few minutes of loading) that means i need more RAM, right? not a new processor?

Why don't you read the docs for your model?
In this pdf DELL states clearly that 1GB of RAM is max. ( i.e. max 2x512MB)

To get KDE loaded more RAM will help.
But the overall specs make me think, that you should by a new one or change the DE.
There are loads of DEs out for machines that can't handle "big" DEs....

ive read the docs, i was just confused about the wording of '1GB max'. thanks for helping me clear the cobwebs. i use blackbox, btw. trying to get dwm to work (new to this compiling business). pure data also gets hung up on certain processes. for the most part it works, just want to maximise how well on this setup.
