RAID10 partition "stalling"

Hi All,

i've recently set up a RAID10 array on CentOS 6.4. No problems with the setup whatsoever, but i do notice that the machine stalls from time to time, particularly when running mdadm --detail /dev/md0.

At first i suspected the WD power saving feature, but i've removed that drive and it still stalls...and it's a blue drive, not green.

i've checked the logs, no suspicious disk/ IO errors reported even with debug logging. Any suggestions? tia

Hi

You don't mention the number of disks and how they have been configure.
For example.

Bridge + Bridge -> Mirror array = Slow

Stripe + Stripe -> Mirror array = Better (Better still if have they have odd numbers disks).

Take a look at the following link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID#RAID_5

Regards

Ray
