Unhappy RAID on debian

i've installed debian on my machine, but i'm unable to mount my RAID disks

i have a Asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard.
someone told me i have to download the modules for my chipset and compile them. is this true?

the kernel is 2.4.26-i386 (i didn't recompile it because it had yet the modules for raid)
the raid controller is a VIA 6410 and the chipset is an Intel 846

need more info??

Done... downloaded the dirvers from the VIA site and i recopiled them
everything worls very well
