RAID + kernel 2.6
Hi, I have a little question about RAID.
I've always had a RAID0 on my computer and I would like now to install SuSE 9.2 to try it out a bit, but it says i'll loose all my data if I try to write on my RAID disks because the kernel 2.6 doesn't support RAID like 2.4 did. So, I plugged in a spare HDD I had, so this is how my computer is now set up:
- Primary IDE Master: 40GB HDD no RAID
- Primary IDE Slave: nothing
- Secondary IDE Master: DVD drive
- Secondary IDE Slave: DVD burner
- SATA1: 80GB HDD RAID0
- SATA2: 80GB HDD RAID0
My BIOS is set so the first boot device is SCSI/RAID, and obviously that's where the MBR is, but now, if I install SuSE 9.2 on my spare HDD which is just on the primary channel, will writing the MBR on my RAID damage my data?
Or maybe, would it be possible to just:
- disable my RAID
- set the 1st boot device to HDD0 instead of SCSI/RAID
- install SuSE on that HDD
- install the drivers for the SATA/RAID controller
- modify my lilo.conf so I can have dual boot
- and finally plug my RAID back in?
any help appreciated, thx!
