Raid Arrays and IDE Probes

I wish to re-install red hat 9 onto a raid 0 array created with 2 120gb maxtors. I set the correct functions in the raid bios and linux tells me when i try to install it that there are corrupt partition tables and the drives must be formatted. Once installed grub can't find red hat to boot it. My mobo is a ga-7vaxp ultra with (MBFasttrack Lite 133 RAID (Promise PDC 20276).
Also when i have ripped cd's in windows the rate is 25x, but with grip in linux it is 3x. Do I need to enable dma, if so, how? Or do I need to install a driver for my kt400 chipset?
