Raid and Mandrake 10.0

Hi all,
I have a P4C800-E Delux Asus motherboard which has a raid controller. I have installed two sata disks and configured them to have mirroring. Window XP sees then only one disk as expected. When I startup Mandrake, it sess two disks (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb) whatever is the configuration of disks in the raid controller!

Why?

Am I constrained to use software raid in Linux?

Thanks in advance

Hi again,
Here are some precisions:
The onboard RAID controller is Promise PDC20376 FastTrack 378. Does someone know if it is a real hardware one?

Is it worth under Linux to use Hardware RAID with this controller?

I went to Asus site and there is a Linux driver for RedHat with 2.4.x kernel. Nothing for Mandrake or 2.6.x kernel. Someone knows if a driver is being written for this controller under 2.6 kernel?

Well,

I have found on this link the reply to my question. The driver is in the 2.6 kernel but it behaves such that each disk be seen as SCSI separate disk independently from array disks defined in contoller bios.
