Raid 5

Can anybody recommend a PCI IDE RAID Controller card that is cheap and is reliable. I have a client that has several PIII's and I want to make one a IMAGING server and the other Backup Server. Thanks

Although you didn't say it explicitly in the body of your post, I assume from your Subject that we're talking RAID 5 on the recommended card; & that it should run under the distro of your choice.

I just bought a HighPoint RocketRaid 133 that claimed on the box that it supports "Linux". That means they supply Linux drivers for "Red Hat, SuSE, Turbo, Caldera, FreeBSD" (listed on the CD). Unfortunately I'm planning to use (Debian) Etch, MEPIS 6, or, if absolutely necessary, Kubuntu 6.06 LTS in the server it's going into.

Moral: caveat emptor

BTW, my card doesn't do RAID 5, I was only looking for RAID 1.

I did eventually find a list of available RAID drivers on tldp.org -- sorry I didn't save the link.

Do you have any candidates in mind that we could comment on, w/ links if possible?
