RAID 1+0 is slightly faster than RAID 5. Both schema have identical redundance in standard configurations. RAID 1+0 costs more disks, and therefore is more expensive than parity based RAID 5.
I personally use RAID 10 or 0+1 whenever possible. The difference in cost between 3 drives(RAID 5) and 4 drives(RAID 10) ain't much in my opinion. Might as well have the speed, if you're going to bother with it in the first place.
